Timeline

Background
2002-2003

The Throne Speech of November 2002 commits the Department of Education
to "increasing the computer literacy skills of Manitoba students". 
Manitoba Education and Training leads a team of
Manitoba educators to develop the concept of literacy with ICT.

Development
2004-2005

Manitoba Education and Training leads a team of
Manitoba educators to develop the concept of literacy with ICT.

Action Research
2005-2006

All school divisions conduct action research on
Literacy witih ICT Across the Curriculum
and build capacity for implementation.

Implementation Year 1
2006-2007

Selected K-8 classrooms in each school division begin to use
the Developmental Continuum for Literacy with ICT
and to pilot their divisional reporting model.

Implementation Year 2
2007-2008

Additional K-8 classrooms in each school division use the Developmental Continuum for Literacy
with ICT
 and begin reporting to parents on student literacy with ICT.
First year of funding of K-8 schools.

Implementation Year 3
2008-2009

All K-8 classrooms in all Manitoba schools and divisions use the Developmental Continuum for 
Literacy with ICT
 and report to parents on student literacy with ICT.
Second year of funding of K-8 schools.

Ongoing Implementation
2009-2010

Third year of funding of K-8 schools.
Some school divisions start implementing LwICT at Senior Years.

2010-2016

Ongoing support of school divisions, K-12, as they continue their implementation of Literacy with ICT.

Refresh
Fall 2013-Spring 2015

Manitoba Education and Training leads a team of educators to refresh the current literacy
with ICT model and continuum. The refresh is to update the continuum based upon teacher
feedback and to give it a K – 12 focus.

Pilot
2015 – 16 School Year

A variety of Manitoba educators test out the refreshed version of the continuum by using it:
with their students in their classrooms; as a planning and assessment tool; and as a
discussion starter with their colleagues.

Ongoing Implementation
2016–

Ongoing support of school divisions, K-12, as they learn about the refreshed continuum and continue their implementation of Literacy with ICT.
