Planning for you future | Manitoba Student Aid

When do I apply?

Applying early is always better. We'll explain how early you should apply and why.

You can apply early using the online application.

Normally, applications for fall and winter studies are available in June. Students should apply early to make sure they don't miss any deadlines.

Online applications take two weeks to process, paper applications are available in July and take five weeks to process.

You can apply even if your school has not officially accepted you – just make sure you know the name of your school, the program you are going into and the start and end dates.

If you are going to a school or program that is not designated, please contact your institution (e.g. Financial Awards Office or Registrar's Office) to request they apply for designation by completing the Designation Application: Educational Institution and Program (Adobe PDF Document 453 KB) or the Designation Application: Educational Program (Adobe PDF Document 257 KB). Your institution must then email the completed application and all supporting documents to msadesigna@gov.mb.ca.

  • the school's accreditation
  • the program requirements
  • school's entrance requirements

This process can take up to four weeks to complete, so please leave time when you apply. Unfortunately, if your school or program is not or cannot be designated, you will not be given student loan for that school or program.

For more information, please read the Manitoba Student Aid Designation Policy (Adobe PDF Document 112 KB).
