(Basic French)

French Courses

The Bureau de l’éducation française (BEF) is revitalizing French courses offered in English schools from Kindergarten to Grade 12. In 2011, after consulting with the educational community, the BEF introduced a new vision, new goals and guiding principles. These components and a balanced literacy based approach (Adobe PDF Document 410 KB) give a new impetus to the teaching and learning of French in Manitoba.

French is a course designed for all children enrolled in the English School Program in Manitoba and it can be divided into two components:

Vision and Goals

The French courses aim to provide all students in Manitoba with quality French instruction which enables them to communicate in the French language and to appreciate francophone cultures.

The goals of the courses are to give students the opportunity to:

  • acquire the necessary language skills to communicate in French;
  • value the learning of French as a tool for personal, intellectual, and social growth;
  • demonstrate an appreciation of Francophone cultures;
  • further develop intercultural communication skills that are essential to all global citizens.
