Professional Certification
Experience
The criteria for recognizing experience is outlined in the Teaching Certificates and Qualifications Regulation 115/2015 of the Education Administration Act (sections 25 to 28).
Experience earned in a Manitoba public school system while holding a valid Manitoba professional certificate may be recognized.
Experience earned outside Manitoba while holding a valid teaching or school clinician certification in the jurisdiction may be recognized provided that:
- A teaching certificate or academic credential to work as a clinician was required for employment and;
- The teacher or clinician was supervised by a recognized educational authority or licensing body and;
- The employing institution was supported by public funds and;
- The programs of study were relevant to the Kindergarten to Grade 12 public school system.
Experience gained in a Canadian private school may be granted provided the following conditions apply:
- A teaching or clinician's certificate or equivalent was required for employment and;
- The teacher or clinician was supervised by a recognized educational authority and;
- The employing institution was supported by public funds and
- The programs of study were equivalent to those taught in the Manitoba public school system.
Credit for teaching experience completed in a Canadian private school may be granted provided the following conditions apply:
- The person held a valid teaching/clinician certificate or equivalent issued by the jurisdiction where the experience was gained and;
- The jurisdiction recognized the programs of study and standings awarded to the students of the private school.
Evaluation of teaching experience acquired outside Manitoba requires a copy of a valid teaching certificate from the jurisdiction where the experience was acquired. A Statement of Professional Standing or additional documents may be required for the Professional Certification Unit to establish certification dates.
Under the Teaching Certificates and Qualifications Regulation 115/2015 experience earned at a non Canadian private school is not eligible for recognition in Manitoba.
Experience gained by a school clinician employed in an adult learning centre is not eligible for recognition. The regulatory intent is to recognize the provision of clinician services to school-age children.
