Arts Education Grant 2020/2021

The deadline to submit an application for the arts education grant has been extended to December 4, 2020.

Teachers are invited to apply for a grant (maximum $500) in support of 2020/2021 school projects to inspire artistic creation among students in dance, dramatic arts, music and visual arts. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the delivery of school programming, the grant continues to be available to teachers who wish to offer arts learning experiences that require funding support from the department. The intent of the program is to help schools engage professional artists to work with teachers and students on projects that encourage students to express themselves through arts creation.

Selection Criteria:

The project must

  • focus on one of the following essential learning areas of the Dance, Dramatic Arts, Visual Arts and Music curriculum frameworks*: Creative Expression (Kindergarten to Grade 8) and Creating (Grades 9-12)
  • involve learning experiences in which students generate, develop, refine and share their ideas for creation in the arts
  • include the collaboration (virtual or in-person) of professionals/artists in the areas of dance, dramatic arts, visual arts and/or music from outside of the school learning community
  • take place in the school or community during the 2020–2021 school year

Note that presentations by artists such as plays, performances or concerts do not qualify for the grant as they do not meet the criteria of arts creation by students.

All projects must ensure that public health measures related to COVID-19 are respected.
