Student Advisory Council
Establish a Student Advisory Council to provide advice and perspectives to the Minister, as part of the development of a broader student engagement framework.
What's New
Over the 2022/23 term, Student Advisory Council members met nine times to discuss and provide input on various topics, which helped to inform several of Manitoba’s K to 12 Education Action Plan priority items. Topics included remote learning, physical education, health and science curricula, student engagement and youth leadership, school leadership, the poverty and education task force and the access to menstrual products initiative.
The final meeting for the 2022/23 Student Advisory Council was held on July 25, 2023. Council members presented their preliminary 2022-23 activity report to Minister Ewasko. Afterwards, the Minister answered student questions and concerns regarding education. A summary presentation of the recent G7 Education Minister’s Meeting in Japan was delivered by the Deputy Minister, Dana Rudy. Members also discussed ideas for innovation in education and their hopes for the 2023/24 council.
On July 25, 2023, the Manitoba government announced and welcomed new and returning members to the 2023/24 Student Advisory Council. The first meeting of the 2023/24 council was held on July 25, 2023 jointly with the final meeting of the outgoing 2022/23 Student Advisory Council Members.
The Commitment
The role of the Student Advisory Council is to bring forward student perspectives and provide insights and advice on issues and topics that are current and emerging for Manitoba Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K–12) students. Council members share their experiences and valuable insights to ensure a vibrant future for Manitoba’s K to 12 education system.
What This Means for Manitobans
Students are at the heart of Manitoba’s education system, and their opinions play an important role in the decisions that affect them. The council ensures Manitoba students from across the province have a platform to contribute their voices in shaping the education system in Manitoba.
