Exchange Programs and Bursaries for Secondary Students

International Education Partnerships

Manitoba has entered into education-related agreements with other governments. These agreements are overseen by the Government of Manitoba, but administered by local educational institutions.

Manitoba-Québec Six-Month Student Exchange Program

Students are paired with Québec students for a six-month period – three months in Manitoba and three months in Québec.

Program Objectives

  • Improve the Manitoba students' knowledge of the French language and Québec;
  • Improve the Québec students' knowledge of the English language and Manitoba;
  • Encourage cross-cultural exchange;
  • Expose students to another school system.

 

Official Languages Programs

French Immersion Studies Bursary (Adobe Icon 67 KB)

You are an Anglophone Manitoba student and want to be completely immersed in the French language and culture outside your home province? The French Immersion Studies Bursary (Adobe Icon 67 KB) worth $2,500 is available to you for a one-year French Immersion Intensive Program offered in various Canadian bilingual or French-language post-secondary institutions outside Manitoba! First, you must contact your institution of choice (Adobe Icon 170 KB) for more detailed information about their programs, then, your can apply for the bursary!

In addition, if you have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies, an employment opportunity is available to supplement your finances during the course of your out-of-province full-time studies! ACCENT (see below) will give you the chance to share your culture! This is an excellent opportunity for all students, and particularly those who want a job opportunity in a classroom setting!

Bourses aux étudiants du Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (Adobe Icon 56 KB)

The purpose of the Bourse aux étudiants du Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (Adobe Icon 56 KB French form only) worth $500 is to encourage students to pursue their post-secondary studies in French at the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. French Language Studies Bursary (Adobe Icon 50 KB)

This bursary is offered to Manitoba residents who wish to pursue their post-secondary studies in a program which is not offered in Manitoba in the French language. The “French Language Studies Bursary” worth a maximum $2,500 is available as a supplementary financial aid for travel costs, living expenses or any other costs incurred related to their out-of-province studies.

In addition, if you have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies, an employment opportunity is available to supplement your finances during the course of your out-of-province full-time studies! This is an excellent opportunity for all students, and particularly those who want an employment opportunity in a classroom setting!

Accent

Accent LogoAccent is a part-time work experience available to post-secondary students who are studying at an institution outside their home province or territory.

With Accent, you will lead classroom activities in English with elementary, secondary, or post-secondary Canadian students, eight hours per week, between September 1st  and April 30th.

Language assistants are paid $520 a month over eight months. Not bad for a part-time job!

Explore is a five-week intensive language-learning course. You can take the course in the spring or summer, whichever you prefer! This means that you can take a job for the rest of the summer, if you wish.
