Suggested Strategies for Successful Implementation of the Manitoba School Leadership Framework
Successful provincial implementation of the Manitoba School Leadership Framework relies on school and school division leaders, education partners, and the department to actively promote and use the Framework to support professional learning in school leadership for current and aspiring leaders. The Framework’s implementation is strengthened through the collective efforts of school leaders, school division leadership, education partners, and the department. Suggested strategies for a successful implementation are outlined below.
School Leaders (Current and Aspiring)
- Participate in leadership development opportunities aligned with the Framework.
- Share the Framework with colleagues and school staff to build a shared understanding of effective school leadership.
- Use the Framework and resources for self-reflection of their leadership experiences, continuous improvement, and growth.
- Purposefully engage with colleagues in focused conversations on the application of the Framework in local contexts.
- Contribute to the creation and co-creation of support resources.
- Provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Framework and its resources.
School Division Leaders
- Develop and align policies and procedures to support leadership development through the implementation of the Framework.
- Participate in leadership development opportunities aligned with the Framework.
- Promote the Framework to build shared understanding of effective school leadership within teams and among colleagues.
- Integrate the Framework into meetings, committees, and professional learning and apply the Framework within local contexts.
- Contribute to the creation and co-creation of support resources.
- Provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Framework and support resources.
Education Partner Organizations
- Participate in leadership development opportunities aligned with the Framework.
- Share and promote the Framework with members to build a shared understanding of effective school leadership.
- Use the Framework to guide current and future professional learning opportunities that align with organizational mandates.
- Leverage existing meetings and professional learning opportunities to understand effective school leadership as described in the Framework.
- Create and implement school leadership learning networks that prioritize time for leaders to share and reflect on their practice.
- Collaborate with school divisions and the department to align leadership development efforts.
- Advocate for the Framework’s integration in provincial and regional initiatives.
- Participate in opportunities to create and co-create support resources that will enhance the implementation of the Framework.
- Provide feedback on its effectiveness, and support research and evaluation related to the Framework’s impact.
Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning
- Deliver Framework overview sessions at provincial, regional, and divisional levels upon request.
- Promote the Framework internally and externally to build a shared understanding of effective school leadership.
- Align departmental, divisional, and branch work with the Framework through policies, documents, meetings, committees, professional learning, and planning.
- Use the Framework to inform and support school leadership learning opportunities.
- Lead the development and co-development of support resources to facilitate the implementation and effectiveness of the Framework.
- Collect feedback from school leaders, school division leaders and education partners.
- Establish and manage a framework review cycle with input from education partners.
- Oversee ongoing updates to the Framework and its website.
