Starting a Manitoba Adult Learning Centre
Adult Learning Centres (ALCs) provide quality educational programming based on recognized principles of adult education to support adult learners in earning Grades 9-12 credits. ALCs serve adult learners who want to:
- complete a high school diploma
- earn specific additional credits to meet prerequisites for post-secondary education, training, or employment
ALCs are authorized by the Province of Manitoba to grant high school credits and issue high school diplomas. They use department-developed or approved curricula, and graduates meet provincial high school graduation requirements.
The Adult Learning Centres Act and General Regulation establish the eligibility requirements and responsibilities of a registered ALC. All potential applicants should be familiar with the requirements for ALC operators before applying.

Starting a Manitoba Adult Literacy Program
Manitoba Adult Literacy Programs (MALPs) provide non-credit learning opportunities that help adults improve foundational literacy and numeracy skills to achieve their personal, educational, and employment goals.
ALPs receive funding under The Adult Literacy Act and Adult Literacy Regulation, which establish the eligibility criteria and outline the responsibilities of program operators. All potential applicants should be familiar with the requirements for ALP operators before applying.
