Online Learning Resources

The following websites or apps can also help you support your child’s learning in a French language environment. Have your child visit some of these sites, listen and read, and interact in French. It is not important that they understand every word, but the exposure to the French language will help with their development. It they have questions, they can always talk to their teacher.

If you want more information about what your child is learning, you can visit My Child in School: A Resource for Parents. This site provides an overview of major concepts for each grade and compulsory subject area for Manitoba K-12 students. TIDOU
This website has a variety of educational games for different age groups. The interface is French, but the site is easy to navigate and the games are self-explanatory.

Français (Literacy)

Boukili
A second platform, is available to families, a virtual library with more than one hundred French digital books supporting children’s literacy development.  Children can learn how to read in French thanks to illustrated books all in one original application.

Duolingo Kids
Duolingo kids is a free app that can be downloaded on a mobile device, tablet or Chromebook to help children learn a language, in this case French.

Lulu la taupe
This website offers a variety of educational games for younger children. The website is in French, but is easy to navigate.

L’Histoire du petit poupouyaki
This website includes an audio story with interactive activities.

The Fable Cottage
This website includes children's stories translated into French with optional English translation and slow audio.

The French Experiment
This website includes audio stories. The "English translation" option is available for parents to help them follow. It also has a variety of French lessons, from counting in French to the days of the week, to French idioms and expressions.

Toupi et Binou
This simple website features videos and games targeting French language learners.

Early Years Activity Books
These bilingual activities, designed to help introduce children to French vocabulary terms, were developed by Canadian Parents for French and are available in several languages.

Mathadores
This Canadian website will help your child learn math by playing games. A fun video shows how to play the game.

AquaMath
AquaMath is an interactive website for grades 3 and 4. Students will be able to practice concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. Different levels of difficulty are offered and a read over is available.

Netmath
Netmath platform is aligned with the Manitoba Mathematics Curriculum for grades 3 to 9. New for the 2020-2021 school year, it is available for grades 1 and 2. Parents will be able to go to the English interface to get instructions, but then click to access content in French. There is an annual subscription cost associated with it unless your child has already a membership through school.

Math en direct is a site that offers grade 5 students a series of lessons covering various mathematical concepts in the form of an animated episode. This site aligns with the Manitoba mathematics curriculum. Additional exercises with answered keys that can be used as classroom exercises or homework are offered for each lesson.

Agents en noir
Agents en noir, aligned with the Manitoba Mathematics Curriculum, is a site that offers grade 6 students a variety of animations that explain concepts of mathematics as well as problems to be solved. It is presented around a fun theme: secret agents hide everywhere and conduct their investigation. A glossary completes the site.
