Welcome to the Basic French site!
We hope that you will find this site easy to use and that it will prove to be a practical and efficient tool to assist you in teaching Basic French in your classroom. This site contains information regarding Basic French material created by the Department of Education, Citizenship and Youth. It also provides links to various practical Internet sites that are related to the teaching and learning of French as a second language. We are always adding new information as it becomes available so we encourage you to visit this site often.
Basic French
Basic French courses are offered from Grades 4 to 12 in the English schools in Manitoba. For those schools wishing to offer Basic French at the primary level, the "Early Start French" is available with user friendly material found in Au Manitoba, on s'amuse en français, K & 1; 2 & 3.
Online and Web-Based Courses
Web-Based Basic French Courses (Cours en ligne) for Grades 9, 10 and 11 are now available. Teachers can view these and other web-based courses by consulting the WBC Preview Courses website. The BEF also offers Distance Education Grade 7-12.
Intensive French
In addition, teachers can find up to date information on a new approach to teaching Basic French, the Intensive French (Français intensif).

This document sets out the guidelines and conditions, which enable schools to offer consistent, continuous and effective programming in Basic French.
