Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics

In 2001, the Department completed a new optional curriculum for Grade 9 mathematics, Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics.

Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics comprises a series of modules, each designed to address gaps in students’ mathematical understandings as they transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 Mathematics. The curriculum for Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics allows students to earn optional credits within the Senior Years graduation requirements. Grade 9 Mathematics (10F) will remain as the compulsory core credit for Grade 9 mathematics.

Timetabling for this new curriculum is a local decision as is determining the students for whom it is appropriate. The series of modules comprising Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics is configured as two half courses. Some students may require specific modules configured as half course I while others may require modules configured as half course II. Still others may require both half courses. Other students will not require Grade 9 Transitional Mathematics (I or II) in order to transition satisfactorily to Grade 9 Mathematics (10F).
