Building Student Success with Aboriginal Parents

Background and Funding

Thirty-eight projects have been funded for up to $15,000 per year, with increases of $100,000 in the overall fund in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 school years.  In the 2007-08, the funding supported development of a DVD highlighting positive results of the BSSAP initiative in six selected sites. The total funding for BSSAP is $600,000 and has 38 sites across the province.

Two new sites were established with Fort Rouge School, Winnipeg School Division and Elwick School, Seven Oaks School Division in 2007-08. These two schools are part of the Community School Partnership Initiative which began in 2006. The schools were encouraged to apply for partnership to bring the two initiatives together resulting in improved overall parental involvement.

Each site provides an annual financial and program report to the Aboriginal Education Directorate in October of each year of funding.
