REEL Canada Film Day

REEL CANADA is a non-profit program that introduces students to the power and diversity of Canadian film and engages them in a conversation about what it means to be Canadian. For Canada's 150th anniversary, they are planning a National Canadian Film Day 150 on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Classes across the country will watch a great Canadian film, and engage in an online Q&A with Vinay Virmani — the hilarious star of hockey-romance BREAKAWAY — and lots of other surprise filmmaker guests!

The Canada Day Challenge

Presented by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Day Challenge is a competition on:

  • Arts "Draw it" The goal is to create an entry that illustrates a young Canadian’s vision of the future for themselves and for Canada.
  • Photography "Snap it" Moving forward, what will your Canada look like?
  • Creative writing "Write it" What does the future hold for yourself and for Canada?Text must be original and 500 words or less. It can be a short story, a poem or an essay, and written in either in French or in English. Bilingual texts are accepted.

Participants must ensure to read through the contest Official Rules before submitting an entry, as there are specific requirements for each category.

There will be a national winner and two finalists from each category. The three selected as national winners to represent each category will be featured on the winning posters for Celebrate Canada.

Deadlines: The 2017 Canada Day Challenge will close on March 31, 2017.
