Paced Courses Now Available

As of September 2018, the Distance Learning Unit will be offering a selection of Paced courses at the Grade 12 level.

What are Paced Courses?
  • Paced courses will have assignment due dates. There are two choices:
    • September 2018 to May 2019
    • January 2019 to May 2019
  • Students registering in Paced courses will receive reminders about assignment due dates. If you are a learner that prefers to have deadlines and structure, paced courses may be a suitable option.
  • Adhering to the assignment due dates will allow students to complete the credit by the end of May 2019 so that the credit may count towards high school graduation or Fall 2019 Post-secondary acceptance.
  • Students may reserve seats in a paced class in advance of the class commencing by submitting a registration for that class section. Students reserving a seat in advance will have a start date as of the first day of class (September 1, 2018 or January 1, 2019).
  • Registration for the September 2018 class will be open until October 31, 2018.
  • Registration for the January 2019 class will open November 1, 2018 and will end February 28, 2019.
The pace is moving too slowly. Can I work ahead?
  • Students may work ahead if they choose.
I am falling behind in my course. What will happen?
  • Adhering to the assignment deadlines will allow students to complete the credit in time for a June 2019 graduation. However, students are allowed 12 months to complete the course. Assignments will be accepted until the course registration expires. Extensions may be purchased if necessary.
  • Classes commencing in September 2018 will expire in September 2019. Classes commencing in January 2019 will expire in January 2020.
I missed the deadlines to register for the Paced course but I need this credit. Now what do I do?
  • For each paced course there is also a continuous intake course. You may register for a continuous intake course at any time. Students have 12 months from the date of registration to complete the course and are responsible for pacing themselves through the course. To assist students in developing a schedule for themselves there are suggested timelines in the introduction of each course.
