Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning wants students to understand that what they are learning in science is both immediately and potentially relevant and that maintaining an engagement with school science can lead to satisfying and challenging career opportunities. Initiatives included in the Action Plan for Science Education in Manitoba are not solely designed to target students who are already succeeding in the sciences, but to also provide visible support and outreach to those students who may not be fully engaged with science as an area of personal or educational interest.
Student engagement and teacher support should be at the core of any initiative aiming to encourage student success in science. If students are motivated and see science as relevant, they have a better chance of succeeding. As well, giving teachers professional support related to content as well as pedagogy can lead to student success. Therefore, the Action Plan for Science Education in Manitoba is made possible through partnerships with community organizations that share a vision of enhanced science education for students across the province. It is guided by the two following orientations:
