Understanding Art in Context (A-U3) »
Students demonstrate understanding of the roles, purposes, and meanings of the visual arts in the lives of individuals and in communities.

 

Students who have achieved expectations for this grade are able to

demonstrate understanding of ways in which artists and designers contribute to the quality of everyday life

demonstrate understanding that many everyday objects (e.g., toys, clothes, magazines, cars, buildings) are designed by people with artistic training

demonstrate awareness of the intended meanings and/or purposes of artworks encountered in own viewing and artmaking experiences

demonstrate appreciation of art as a means of experiencing and exploring own and others' lives (e.g., feelings, values, stories, events, cultures)

demonstrate awareness that different groups of people may have their own characteristic artmaking styles or traditions (ideally, this awareness extends to the art of own cultural or social groups)
