Schools are not only central hubs for learning; they are also a key resource for nutritional snacks and meals for many Manitoba students. Since the suspension of in-class learning, staff at Elwick Community School have found a way to support families in need. In addition to food items, families in the community were also needing other essential items such as hand sanitizer, cleaning products, and toiletries. Elwick staff members donated $1,400 to create care packages for these families. They shopped to find those particular items along with staple foods to add to the hampers, and educational assistants were particularly instrumental in this process. The Seven Oaks School Division has since organized a divisional response and is providing weekly hampers for families in the division. Elwick Community School has continued to boost the contents of the hampers with additional funds, and this support helps keep them connected with families in the community and strengthens their relationships with those who need them most!
