The Winnipeg School Division’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been truly commendable. Staff throughout the division have stepped up to help prepare, collate, and package home learning kits for students. In many cases, learning packages were dropped off to families where transportation was an issue. The Winnipeg School Division has also developed a Food Security Initiative through which the division dropped food hampers to over 3,200 families every two weeks.

Industrial arts teachers are using their spare time to make medical mask clasps using 3-D printers and plasma cutters. Physical education teachers are preparing teaching videos and sharing them online and through social media to motivate students to stay engaged. Some Early Years teachers are taking their teaching door-to-door and visiting students and families outside their homes, keeping in mind social distancing requirements. Many teachers are finding creative ways to support their students and families, including creating feedback forms for parents and students to provide input on what is working and what might need to be improved.
