a hand holding gears Education Council

Launch an Education Council with representatives from the education system, youth-serving organizations and partners to support provincial planning and enhance alignment across school divisions and schools.

What's New

Three Manitoba Education Council meetings have taken place to date on February 6, 2023; April 27, 2023; and June 19, 2023.

The Commitment

Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning will establish an Education Council to bring intersectoral partners together to facilitate system level planning and collaboration. The Council will create a forum to raise, discuss, and plan for issues facing children and youth, families, teachers, school staff, and early childhood educators; advise how Manitoba can improve student achievement and well-being across the education sector; and promote inter-sectoral engagement, collaboration, and partnership.

What This Means for Manitobans

The Education Council provides a structured forum for educational partners and others who have a vested interest in the success and future of Manitoba’s children and youth in order to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on continuous improvement that enhances student achievement and well-being.

What We've Done

  • In fall 2022, Manitoba issued a call for applications to parents/caregivers of students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 publicly funded schools and reached out to the education system, Indigenous leaders, and intersectoral partners to recommend individuals to join the Council.
  • In January 2023, the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning appointed members to the Council for two year terms.
  • An onboarding and orientation meeting was held on February 6, 2023, with subsequent meetings held in April and June 2023.

Next Steps

  • The next meeting is scheduled for September 2023. Future meetings are scheduled in November 2023, February 2024, and May 2024.
