student holding a diploma Provincial Code of Conduct and Policies on the Use of Exclusionary Practices

Update Manitoba’s Provincial Code of Conduct and develop policies on the use of exclusionary practices (seclusion, suspension, and expulsion) for all students

The Commitment

Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning will produce a reviewed and updated Manitoba Provincial Code of Conduct. Schools and school divisions will be required to develop policies that align with this directive.

What This Means for Manitobans

The updated Manitoba Provincial Code of Conduct will align language and terminology with associated policy directives (i.e. seclusion, suspension and expulsion) and other exclusionary practices, legislation, regulations, in the revised Standards for Appropriate Educational Programming in Manitoba, 2022 as well as other current support documents. This will provide clarity for teachers, school divisions, parents/caregivers and students on the use of exclusionary practices and emphasize the directive to minimize the use of suspension and expulsion across the province.

Next Steps

  • Work will continue on updating the directive to minimize the use of suspension and expulsion.
