Re:
Technical Vocational Equipment Upgrade Grant 2011-2012
Professional Development Grant 2011-2012

Dear Colleagues:

The Technical Vocational Initiative (TVI) will provide the following funding support for technical-vocational education (TVE) for the 2011-2012 school year:

  • $750,000 for technical vocational program equipment upgrade funding, and
  • $100,000 for professional development.

Maximum amounts available per school are:

  • $60,000 for equipment upgrades
  • $7,500 for professional development. Professional development activities on a cost-share basis with school(s)/division are encouraged.

Over the past seven years TVI has provided upwards of 5.5 million dollars for equipment upgrade and professional development support to schools and colleges throughout Manitoba. Continued funding support for the upcoming school year will again assist school divisions to upgrade or acquire new technical vocational equipment to ensure technical vocational program outcomes for students are consistent with current industry and business standards. Similarly, professional development funding will support activities that contribute to teacher currency with industry standards, lead to innovative practices in the classroom and result in improved student learning outcomes.

Funding eligibility criteria are outlined below.  Funding application information and application forms are available on the TVI website or from the TVI office by calling 204‑945-1037.

Proposal Characteristics

Equipment funding is available to Manitoba schools offering technical vocational programming. Professional development support funding does not have to be related to equipment upgrades and may be of a cross-curricular or interdisciplinary nature.  Proposals should include the following characteristics:

  • show evidence of an existing or emerging technical vocational education need
  • support educational outcomes that are consistent with current industry and business standards
  • involve industry, post-secondary and community based consultation where appropriate
  • address articulation with industry and business and post-secondary partners
  • professional development activities should be innovative, promote awareness of trade developments and currency,  lead to improved student learning outcomes
  • identify coherence with overall school and school division planning and programming.

Funding proposals may be submitted on behalf of multiple schools.

Funding applications must be completed using the appropriate forms.

Adjudication Process

A review committee assesses applications and provides proposal recommendations.  Please send completed and signed funding applications to:
