Across Manitoba there is an increasing need for highly skilled citizens in technological, business and trade occupations, with local communities having varied occupational needs. In order to find new ways for exposing more students to technical vocational careers, Technical Vocational Initiative funds a selection of senior years schools and division-based demonstration projects across the province. The intent of this component of the Technical Vocational Education Initiative is to draw upon the creativity and knowledge that exists across our province, allowing “ideas” to turn into “actions”. The funding is to support schools and divisions as they develop innovative approaches for offering relevant technical vocational education. These innovative approaches may include initiatives such as, but not restricted to: identification of local occupational needs, increasing student and community awareness, researching different delivery models, and the implementation of innovative programming. We anticipate that these actions will contribute to increased enrolments in technical vocational programming, increased senior years graduation rates, and increased transition into post-secondary education.
