What are the options for funding?

Types of Funding at a Glance

The chart below shows the type of financial assistance and short details.

Canada Student Loan (CSL)

Interest-free while you are going to school full-time. Interest starts to accumulate as soon as you stop going to school full-time. Payments start six months after you stop going to school full-time.

Manitoba Student Loan (MSL)

Interest-free while you are going to school full-time and during repayment. Payments start six months after you stop going to school full-time.

Canada Student Grant for Students from Low-Income Families

Available to students whose family income (according to the number of people in the family) falls within the "low-income" level as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program.

Canada Student Grant for Students from Middle-Income Families

Available to eligible students whose family income (according to family size) falls within the "middle-income" level as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program.

Canada Student Grant for Students with Dependants

Available to low-income full-time students with children under the age of 12.

Rural/Northern Bursary

Rural and Northern students who move, or commute within Manitoba to study, may be eligible to receive this award.

ACCESS Bursary

Available to eligible ACCESS students. It replaces the Manitoba Student Loan portion and tops up to the balance of the assessed need.

Prince of Wales/Princess Anne Award

Available to eligible Canadian Indigenous students who are studying in Canada.

Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities

Helps full-time and part-time permanently disabled students with living costs, tuition and books.

Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities

Requires a separate application. Available to eligible students to help pay for specialized equipment and services for school.

Part-time Canada Student Loan

Accumulate interest while you are in school. You can make interest-only payments while in school or make no payments until six months after your studies end.

Canada Student Grant for Part-time Studies

For students studying part-time whose family income falls within the "low-income" level as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program.

Canada Student Grant for Part-time Students with Dependants

Available to part-time students with children under the age of 12 (as of the start of the study period).

Aboriginal Education Award

Helps Indigenous students with the costs of tuition, books and supplies. Visit: Business Council of Manitoba – Aboriginal Education Awards

Medical Student/Resident Financial Assistance Program Grant

Return-of-service conditional grants. Grant amount depends on year of school. For more information visit: Medical Student Financial Assistance Program
