Joint MECY/SSAAM Provincial Planning Committee

for Supporting Positive Student Behaviour in Manitoba

The Provincial Positive Behaviour Support (PPBS) Committee was established in December 2004 to assist school divisions across Manitoba with developing systemic and school-wide approaches to prevent and address behavioural concerns in schools. PPBS committee members decided that the most effective way to support schools in enhancing positive student behaviours was to take a three-pronged approach, namely:

  • Develop a resource web-site for schools that would include information on upcoming professional development opportunities in the area of student behaviour, access to quality screened websites containing relevant behaviour strategy information, and highlight behaviour initiatives occurring around the province;
  • Plan regional professional development opportunities for teachers, clinicians and counselors in the area of effective behaviour support, and
  • Establish a network of divisional leaders in behaviour and provide training to assist leaders in implementing effective behaviour interventions in their own local school divisions.

A listing of current PPBS Committee members and their contact information may be found here. The PPBS Committee is based on MECY's philosophy of inclusion and believes that it is by developing partnerships between schools, families, and communities that we have the best opportunity to enhance positive student behaviour in all of Manitoba's school-aged youth.
