Individual Education Planning:
A Handbook for Developing and Implementing IEP's
The term IEP is a global term referring to a written document developed and implemented by a team, outlining a plan to address the individual learning needs of students.
This handbook is intended to provide student service administrators, principals, classroom and resource teachers, and other professionals with an effective process for deciding which students require IEPs. It is also designed to assist educators in developing, implementing and evaluating these Individual Educational Plans.

Chapter 1: Individual Education Planning explores the benefits for educators and families of planning collaboratively, and clarifies what is involved in IEP planning. (33 KB)
Chapter 2: Deciding Who Needs an IEP identifies the students for whom IEPs are required by Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth or by intersectoral initiatives. It describes the benefits of IEPs and traces a process schools may use to identify students for individual planning. (23 KB)
Chapter 3: Developing and Implementing the IEP outlines the process of individual planning: establishing a team, setting direction, gathering information, developing and writing the plan, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating the plan. (144 KB)
The Toolbox Contents (Appendix A) identifies tools such as checklists that will support staff in IEP planning. (179 KB)
A Professional Development Planning Resource (Appendix B) assists in assessing needs and choosing a format for in-servicing staff in the IEP development. It provides information, guidelines, materials, and process tools for professional development workshops ranging from two-hour to full-day sessions. (270 KB)
