Manitoba Curriculum Status Update
February 2008
- The Framework was distributed to schools September 2000. For guidelines on planning for implementation, refer to Appendix C: School Division/District Planning Process for Implementation of the PE/HE Framework.

- PE/HE time allotments for Kindergarten to Grade 10 students were mandated September 2007. For suggestions related to timetabling the mandated time allotments, refer to the Scheduling Kindergarten to Grade 8 Physical Education/Health Education: A Resource for School Administrators.
- Grades 11 and 12 PE/HE curriculum is under development and systemwide implementation is September 2008 as recommended by the Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures Task Force Report (June 2005).
Kindergarten to Grade 4 Physical Education/Health Education: A Foundation for Implementation (K-4 PE/HE Implementation document)
- The K-4 PE/HE Implementation document was released to schools November 2001. System wide implementation began 2003-2004.
Grades 5 to 8 Physical Education/Health Education: A Foundation for Implementation (5-8 PE/HE Implementation document)
- The 5-8 PE/HE Implementation document was released to schools November 2002. System wide implementation began 2004-2005.
Grades 9 and 10 (Senior 1 and Senior 2) Physical Education/Health Education: A Foundation for Implementation (9-10 (S1-S2) PE/HE Implementation document)
- The Grades 9 and 10 PE/HE Implementation document was released to schools September 2004. System wide implementation begins 2005-2006.
- A Grade 9 Physical Education/Health Education (10F) A Course for Independent Study is now available. For more information, call 1-800-465-9915 or at distance.learning@gov.mb.ca. Grade 10 course should be available for September 2008.
Implementation of Grades 11 and 12 Physical Education/Health Education: A Policy Document
- This Grades 11 and 12 PE/HE policy document was released in April 2007 to assist schools/divisions in planning for implementation. Grade 11 and 12 PE/HE Curriculum is under development with systemwide implementation in September 2008. For orientation workshop information, refer to professional learning.

Learning Resources
- Copies of all curriculum documents can be purchased from the Manitoba Text Book Bureau, borrowed from the Department Library, and/or are available online.
- The Physical Education/Health Education Learning Resources: Kindergarten to Senior 2: Compilation of Annotated Bibliographies (2004-2005) is available online. These resources have been recommended to support the five general learning outcomes. The bibliography contains the resources recommended based on the three reviews scheduled in April 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Future Task Force Report
In June 2005, a Healthy Kids, Healthy Future Task Force report was released. It contains 47 recommendations to support building healthy environments for children and youth focusing on nutrition, physical activity and injury prevention. For more information, visit Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures.
Healthy Food in School
A Manitoba School Nutrition Handbook has been developed to help school communities develop nutrition policies and implement changes to promote healthier eating options.
