Curriculum Information Technology Integration (CITI)

Integrating Information Technology into Manitoba Curricula

The Curriculum Information Technology Integration (CITI) Project was initiated to support teachers in their selection and integration of information technology skills and competencies, outlined in Technology as a Foundation Skill Area: A Journey Toward Information Technology Literacy, 1998 (TFS), with identified core-curricular outcomes. Learning experiences which integrate information technology allow Manitoba students to:

  • use information technology to structure inquires, solve problems, and gather, organize, validate, and communicate information on a local and global scale
  • manage information technology by making creative, productive, and efficient technology choices for the tasks at hand
  • understand information technology and reflect upon the ethics and impact of its use, synthesizing new insights and making reasoned decisions as information technology evolves

Purpose/Goals

The CITI Project was committed to

  • building electronic resources for Manitoba teachers
  • supporting implementation of CITI resources through province-wide professional learning sessions

The goals of the CITI project were to

  • build on successful models for integrating information technology learning resources into Manitoba curricula (i.e., Curriculum/Multimedia Integration Project, Interdisciplinary Middle Years Multimedia Project, and Distance Education Projects)
  • provide linkages between core-curricular outcomes, and information technology skills and competencies so that information technology becomes a meaningful part of resource-based learning in Manitoba
  • conduct field validation of selected information technologies and associated instructional and assessment strategies

Building Electronic Resources for Manitoba Teachers

Manitoba teachers and curriculum developers require resources that integrate the information technology skills and competencies found in Technology as a Foundation Skill (TFS) with core-curricular outcomes. The CITI electronic resource is called the Curriculum Navigator (CN).

The Curriculum Navigator is now available to support Kindergarten to Grade 8 in the areas of English language arts, mathematics and science.
