Applicants Certified in Another Province in Canada
It is important to read all the information provided.
Applications can not be submitted online. The application is to be filled in online and then downloaded to a printer. Sign and return by mail to the Professional Certification
Unit with the requested information.
Note: If you have the education qualifications for a provisional certificate and at least one year of teacher experience in a Canadian jurisdiction, other than Manitoba, you may be eligible for permanent certification.
Note: It is not necessary to have your teaching experience verified for us to issue a teaching certificate.
Note: Experience gained in private schools, or child or youth institutions may be recognized in Manitoba. Experience gained before holding a valid certificate in the jurisdiction is not recognized.
Note: Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution. Originals of other documents may be requested if the photocopies submitted are not acceptable. Documents in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by an official translation. Help with translations may be available from the Citizenship Council, 2nd Floor, 406 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg Manitoba R3B 2M2.
Note: Applicants must be certified in the jurisdiction where the teacher education program was completed.
To evaluate your Canadian teacher credentials for a Manitoba teaching certificate, the following documents are required:
These documents are collected to determine your eligibility for certification in Manitoba and your salary classification. The evaluation will not take place until all the documents have been submitted. Please note that the onus is on you to submit all required documents.
- Application Form. The form can be completed on line but must be printed off and submitted with the necessary documents to be processed.
- Official transcripts - sent directly from the university or universities where you have studied, including your teacher training. Student copies or unofficial transcripts are not acceptable. Transcripts must show conferral of degrees.
- Evaluation and certification fee of $80.00 (non-refundable). Payment can be made by cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance or by credit card by filling out the Credit Card Service request form included in the application package.
Note: All cheques made payable to the Minister of Finance that are dishonoured by the applicant’s financial institution will be assessed a charge-back fee of $20.00.
- A photocopy of proof of Canadian citizenship, such as
- Canadian birth certificate
- Passport
- Canadian citizenship certificate or card
- Landed immigrant status (permanent resident card)
- Valid work visa (if applicable)
- First Nations status
- A current Statement of Professional Standing sent directly from:
(A Statement of Standing is not the same as a Statement of Qualifications):
- Jurisdiction where you completed your teacher training. (Applicants must be certified in the jurisdiction where their teacher education program was completed.)
- All other jurisdictions where you have previously been certified, whether or not the certificate has expired
- Statement of Professional Standing must verify:
- Certificate has not been revoked or cancelled
- All certificates held (not just the current one)
- Statement must be less than 6 months old.
- A Statement of Professional Standing may be obtained from every teacher certification body in Canada.
- Provide an original and current (no more than 3 months old) Criminal Record Check completed at your local Law Enforcement Agency. This must include the Vulnerable Sector Screening. The Vulnerable Sector Screening checks for specific categories of convictions which may have been pardoned.
- If you have changed your name, a photocopy of the official document showing your change of name:
- Divorce decree
- Marriage certificate
- Vital statistics Certificate of Name Change
- Quebec applicants must submit transcripts of DEC from their CEGEP.
- Experience is to be claimed on the Teacher Experience check list. Your employer must verify your experience. Have your previous employer complete the form Verification of Experience (
