Certified Teacher in Another Province within Canada

It is important to read all the information provided.

The Teacher Certification Application Form for Teachers Certified in Another Province in Canada cannot be submitted online. The application form can be filled in online and then downloaded to a printer. Sign and return the application form and necessary documents by mail to the Professional Certification Unit.

NOTES:

  • Experience gained in private schools, or child or youth institutions may be recognized in Manitoba in accordance with current regulations and policies. Experience gained before holding a valid certificate in the jurisdiction is not recognized.
  • Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution. Originals of other documents may be requested if the photocopies submitted are not acceptable. Documents in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by an official translation. Help with translations may be available from the Immigration Centre, 100 Adelaide Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 0W2
  • Applicants must be certified in the jurisdiction where the teacher education program was completed.

To evaluate your Canadian teacher credentials for a Manitoba teaching certificate, the following documents are required:

These documents are collected to determine your eligibility for teacher certification in Manitoba and your salary classification. The evaluation will not take place until all the documents have been submitted. Please note that the onus is on you to submit all required documents.

  • Completed and signed Teacher Certification Application Form for Teachers Certified in Another Province in Canada including the Required Documents Checklist. The Teacher Certification Application Form for Teachers Certified in Another Province in Canada can be completed online but must be printed and submitted with the required documents to be processed. Complete ALL declaration questions in Section F. of the application. For every time you answer "Yes", please provide a complete explanation that includes the full identification of the registration/licencing authority/organization concerned. Provide this information on a separate page(s).
  • Application fee of $150.00 (non-refundable). Payment can be made by cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance or by Visa or MasterCard by completing Section H. Visa or MasterCard Service Request on the application form.
    Note: All cheques made payable to the Minister of Finance that are dishonoured by the applicant’s financial institution will be assessed a charge-back fee of $20.00.
  1. Enclosed Documents
    1. Provide an original current Criminal Record Check accompanied by a Vulnerable Sector Screening
      • completed at your local Law Enforcement Agency. Residents of Winnipeg may submit checks completed using the Winnipeg Police Service On-line Criminal Records Check.
      • Must include the Vulnerable Sector Screening also known as a Record Suspension of (Pardoned) Sex Offender Records. The Vulnerable Sector Screening checks for specific categories of convictions which may have been pardoned.
      • The document must be less than three (3) months old.
      • Your Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Screening must include all current and past legal names that match your proof of identification documents.
      • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening Check are part of the application and will not be returned to the applicant.
    2. Provide an original current Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check if you are a Canadian Citizen, a Landed Immigrant or hold a Valid Work Visa
      • Information about the Child Abuse Registry Check and the application form are available at: www.gov.mb.ca/fs/childfam/child_abuse_registry.html.
      • You must submit the original document. No other format will be accepted.
      • The document must be less than three (3) months old.
      • Child Abuse Registry Check is part of the application and will not be returned to the applicant.
    3. Provide a photocopy of your Birth Certificate.

    4. Provide a photocopy of proof of Canadian citizenship, such as
      • Canadian birth certificate
      • Canadian citizenship certificate or card
      • Landed immigrant status (permanent resident card)
      • Valid work visa (if applicable)
      • First Nations status.
    5. If you have changed your name, provide a photocopy of the official document showing your change of name:
      • Divorce decree
      • Marriage certificate
      • Vital statistics Certificate of Name Change.
    6. Teaching Certificates - a photocopy of all teaching certificates from all jurisdictions where you are certified.
  2. Requested Documents
    1. Official transcript(s) - sent directly from the university or universities where you have studied, including your teacher training. Student copies or unofficial transcripts are not acceptable. Transcripts must show conferral of degrees and all transfer credits.

    2. Quebec applicants must submit transcripts of DEC from their CEGEP.

    3. A current Statement of Professional Standing (A Statement of Standing is not the same as a Statement of Qualifications) mailed directly from:
      1. The jurisdiction where you completed your teacher training. (Applicants must be certified in the jurisdiction where their teacher education program was completed.)
      2. All other jurisdictions where you have previously been certified, whether or not the certificate has expired.
        1. Statement of Professional Standing must verify:
          1. Certificate has not been revoked or cancelled
          2. All certificates held (not just the current one)
        2. Statement must be less than 6 months old.
        3. A Statement of Professional Standing may be obtained from every teacher certification body in Canada.
    4. Experience is to be claimed on the Teacher Experience check list. Your employer must verify your experience. Have all previous employers complete the form Verification of Experience (Adobe Icon 29 KB).

    The completed Teacher Certification Application Form for Teachers Certified in Another Province in Canada and "Enclosed Documents" are to be submitted to:
