Language Requirements

There are no English or French language requirements for teacher certification in Manitoba. However, to teach or find other work in the Manitoba public school system, you must be proficient in either English or French.

If you plan to teach in a Manitoba school offering English programming, it is necessary to be proficient in English.

If you plan to teach in a Manitoba school offering French Immersion or Français, it is necessary to be proficient in French.

Other Languages

A limited number of Funded and Non-Funded (private) independent schools in Manitoba operate in languages other than English or French; therefore, employment opportunities exist at these schools.

Criminal Record Check

Applicants for certification as a teacher in Manitoba must submit a Criminal Records Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and a Child Abuse Registry Check current within three months at the time of application.
