MY CHILD IN SCHOOL – Informed Parent, Involved Parent

GRADE 10: FRANÇAIS

What your child is learning

This course helps the French language development of Grade 10 French Immersion students. Students learn to understand, analyze and react to a variety of oral and written texts in French, such as poems, articles, novels, and media information. They communicate in French to share information, present arguments, ideas and opinions, as well as to tell stories.

This course also helps students to recognize and appreciate how learning French is useful for them personally, intellectually and socially. They also gain an appreciation of French radio and television, and of the contributions of Francophones in the French-speaking world of today.

For further information, speak to your child’s teacher or refer to Cadre commun des résultats d'apprentissage manitobains en français langue seconde – immersion (M-12) (in French only).

How your child is assessed

How your child is assessed may vary from school to school. Assessment will take place throughout the entire course. Written assignments (e.g. reports, poems, short stories and editorials) and oral presentations (e.g. to explain or convince) are some ways the teacher may assess your child. Generally, assessment in the Français course includes a final exam prepared by the teacher, the school or the school division. The final exam measures how your child understands, organizes and communicates ideas and messages in French, as well as their knowledge of the French language and cultures. The length, value and format of this exam may differ from school to school.

For information about provincial policy related to assessment, grading and report cards, see Manitoba Provincial Report Card Policy and Guidelines.
