Framework and Implementation Documents
(for Compulsory Subject Areas)

In the English Program, the Middle Years compulsory subject areas consist of arts education, English language arts, mathematics, physical education/health education, science, and social studies. The following curriculum framework and foundation for implementation documents are available for the compulsory subject areas. Most of the documents are available online. Print copies are available from the Manitoba Learning Resource Centre (formerly the Manitoba Text Book Bureau—MTBB).

School Leaders’ Guide to Middle Years Curricula provides school leaders with an overview and a summary of curriculum information and outcomes. The document includes information about the six Middle Years Compulsory Subject Areas.

The website My Child in School: A Resource for Parents provides parents with information about what their children are learning in compulsory subject areas from Grades 5 to 8 in the English Program.

Contacts for Compulsory Subject Areas

The Manitoba Education and Training Contacts website provides contact information for staff in all areas of responsibility within the department. The search function allows you to search for an individual by name, title, or area of responsibility (e.g., subject area consultants, code of conduct director, Deaf and hard of hearing coordinator). The Contacts site also provides a printable PDF of Whom Do I Call?—a contact sheet that lists the names, telephone numbers, and areas of responsibility of School Programs Division staff.
