Introduction
In 2010, Manitoba Education launched a pilot project to test the provision of video streaming for Manitoba’s schools. Through video streaming, schools are able to view digitized media titles, including educational programs and preview video clips, via the Internet, from a MERLIN streaming server.
The streaming video pilot project includes two products and levels of participation:
- News in Review, a monthly current affairs magazine produced by CBC television for use with students in grades 7 to 12. Included are 16 programs arranged into 64 episodes dating from October 2008 to May 2010. These episodes are password protected and are available only to schools currently subscribing to the IRU's News in Review duplication subscription service.
- 150 clips from Manitoba Education and commercially produced programs sampled from the IRU's media collections. All Manitoba schools are welcome to access the video clips. Program clips have been arranged for ease of access.
The News in Review episodes, and video programs with online clips, are searchable and identified in our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Once you make a selection in the catalogue, scroll down to "Click to preview sample clip online."
