Preservation and Access

Preservation

The Archives is housed in a closed-stack environment, separate from the Instructional Resources Unit (Library) Collection. The humidity and purity of air are controlled for the continued preservation of the Collection. Access to the materials in the Collection is governed by clear guidelines.

The purpose of the preservation guidelines is to provide concrete principles of guidance for the preservation of the material held within the Archives. These procedures are for the benefit of both staff and users of the Library and most importantly, they ensure that the material is preserved for future access and research.

Some of the key points of these guidelines include the following.

Access

1. Access to the Archives is granted by arranging an appointment with the Co-ordinator of the Library

2. Each user of the Collection must read and sign a Researcher Access Agreement Form ( Acrobat Icon 51 KB) and follow the guidelines on the form.

3. Materials from the Collection may only be examined within the Library. Materials cannot be circulated (with the exception of external displays granted by the Coordinator).

The Preservation and Access guidelines can be read in their entirely in the Handbook for the Archives. ( Acrobat Icon 311 KB)
