Renewing Education: New Directions

A Blueprint for Action: Introduction

What is the Essence of New Directions?

New Directions presents a blueprint for the educational renewal of schools and schooling. This blueprint emphasizes the need for all educational partners - parents, students, educators, business, industry, labour, and government - to work together in order to provide quality education for Manitoba's Kindergarten to Senior 4 students that is relevant to the present and appropriate for the future.

Providing a quality education from Kindergarten to Senior 4 means setting strong provincial directions for education while enabling schools and their local communities to make decisions that are considered best for their students' learning requirements.

Essential to the changes presented in New Directions is ensuring that greater decision-making for schools and schooling is located where the education of our children happens - in schools and communities across Manitoba. Parents, principals, teachers, and the community must have meaningful roles in the decisions that directly affect students.

The actions outlined in New Directions will change Manitoba's educational system and emphasize our shared responsibility for ensuring our children have the necessary skills and the level of literacy required to secure their future.
