Helping Your Child Succeed in School:
A Guide for Parents and Families of Aboriginal Students

Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth (MECY) has worked with and sought input from a number of school divisions, Aboriginal educators and community members, and other educational partners in the development of Helping Your Child Succeed in School: A Guide for Parents and Families of Aboriginal Students.
This guide is intended for parents and families of Aboriginal students and includes suggestions they can draw upon related to each grade level from Kindergarten to Grade 12 to participate in and support their child's learning in school and at home. In pamphlet format, the guide will be released in Fall 2006 in English and French print versions and will be accompanied by an audio CD with the guide text narrated in English, French and two Aboriginal Languages (Ojibwe and Cree). A list of supportive actions educators in schools can take to engage parents of families in a shared "circle of support" for student success is also provided in the guide along with a listing of educational partners who can assist parents with involvement in their child's education.
