Physical Education/Health Education

Grade 9 Physical Education/ Health Education (10F) 1 credit (2007) new
The Grade 9 Health Education course teaches the concepts and skills for active healthy lifestyles. The physical activity component is to be provided by the students school for the full credit. The TMO course is structured as follows with the even-numbered modules emphasizing health education.

Health Education

  • Module 2: Personal Management
  • Module 4: Social Management
  • Module 6: Substance Use and Abuse Prevention
  • Module 8: Personal Safety
  • Module 10: Human Sexuality

First Aid Certification

Students are required to complete a certified First Aid Program and assume responsibility for the expenses incurred to attain this certificate (such as St. John's Ambulance Emergency Level or similar).

This course deals with health issues that help students maintain and enhance a healthy lifestyle. You will be able to:

  • identify personal needs
  • assess attitudes and values
  • explore and communicate various points of view
  • practise giving assertive responses
  • gain insights into your own and others’ attitudes and behaviours related to health

This course consists of topics that focus on:

  • contributing to your community
  • responsibility to self and others
  • responsible sexual behaviour
  • mental health
  • transitions
