The Independent Study Option offers the following levels in the French language. Please list the Subject Code, Subject Designation, and the ISO Designation on the application to identify the course(s) required.

  • ISO designation. A 3-digit number that identifies the course version.

This course allows students to study French as a second language, non-immersion. It requires some prior knowledge of French.

This course focuses on reading and writing. Access to a Tutor/Marker will support the listening and speaking skills as well as other aspects of the course. Students are required to record and submit audio samples throughout the course that contributes to their overall final mark.

Evaluation is based on

5 Tests (5%) 25%
5 Projects (10% each) 50%
Final Exam (after Module 5)* 25%
Total 100%

*Students are to bring a French-English dictionary to the Exam.

This course requires prior knowledge of French equivalent to the Grade 11 level.

The course focus is on reading and writing and includes the study of a variety of French texts as well as a complete novel. Access to a Tutor/Marker will support the listening and speaking skills needed as well as other aspects of the course.

Students complete four modules, each module consisting of a number of reading and writing activities. A Tutor/Marker will be available to the student to answer questions and assist with any work.

Evaluation is based on

Final Exam (after Module 4)* 25%
