Residential Schools Student Gallery Walk

The Department of Education and Training, in conjunction with the Aboriginal Circle of Educators, coordinated a research-based student pilot project event called the Residential Schools Student Gallery Walk. This event was part of a larger initiative called From Apology to Reconciliation: A Manitoba Residential Schools Survivors Social Studies Project, which is intended to encourage discussion and make progress on the path toward healing and reconciliation. This initiative provides Manitoba students with culturally appropriate resources regarding the treatment of Aboriginal people in the residential schools system. As a way to encourage discussions and raise awareness on the residential schools system experience, the Aboriginal Circle of Educators and their students shared their knowledge and art of Residential Schools with other teachers, students and delegates who attended “Shawane Dagosiwin”, the 5th Annual Aboriginal Education Research Forum. Students and teachers from all grades were encouraged to participate.
