The information in Promising Pathways: High School and Adult EAL Programming Options for English as an Additional Language (EAL) Youth was compiled through collaboration among the departments of Manitoba Education, Labour and Immigration, Advanced Education and Literacy, and the Winnipeg School Division.

This support document includes the following components:

  • an introduction to the range of academic needs of older EAL youth
  • academic programming options, including:
    • a general discussion of relevant Manitoba public education policy, including Right to Attend and Right to Funding policies
    • high school programs
    • adult learning centres
    • adult English language programs
  • employability supports for students who need or wish to enter the workforce as quickly as possible.
  • financial supports
  • possible scenarios and pathways
  • a list of helpful resources

School counsellors, administrators, EAL and resource teachers and other educators working with recently-arrived immigrant youth will find specific information related to helping these young people access appropriate programming.
