Students will participate in leadership training, learn more about international development and recreate a village from the country they have chosen to raise funds for. They will purchase props to create their village and add items to the village as funds are raised (ex. $75 buys a donkey, $50 buys a pair of goats). |

The students will also research some of the issues affecting people living in Tanzania such as fair trade, life expectancy and health issues and comparing those to Canada. |

They will also be taking a hands-on approach by sewing pillow cases, make-up bags, pajamas and other items, which will be used and kept by residents of the shelter. |

The committee will then look for ways of integrating the theme of diversity and dispelling stereotypes into current character education, language arts and social studies lessons. Students will also participate in activities that foster intercultural communication and connections. |

They will then host a Peace Fair to bring awareness to these issues and potentially change the way people see others. Any money raised through this event will be given to local and global organizations that deal with race and/or youth violence issues. |

Activities would include dance, games, food, spoken/written languages and art from other countries. Students will also be organizing a mini-folklorama where families would be invited to wear traditional clothing and share favourite family dishes from their homelands. |
