Services for the
Blind/Visually Impaired
Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth

Eligibility for Service

Alternate Format Services (AFS) loans alternate format materials (audio books, Braille, large print, and electronic text) for use by print disabled students in Manitoba schools.  Teachers in Manitoba may place an order at AFS on behalf on their students who have been assessed as print disabled.  Visually impaired students must be assessed by a Departmental consultant for the visually impaired, and other print disabled students must have been assessed by a resource teacher.

AFS also loans alternate format materials to authorized borrowers who are registered with other educational resource centres for the perceptually disabled in Canada.

Special Learning Equipment (SLE) is authorized for use by a departmental consultant specifically for blind/visually impaired and severely physically disabled students attending schools in Manitoba.
