Provincial Parent-Friendly Report Card Initiative

In September 2010, Premier Greg Selinger announced the introduction of a parent-friendly report card to ensure that parents get the information they need to be full partners in their children's education. The new report card will be written in plain language, while allowing teachers to enrich the reporting with personalized information about each student.

The new report card has been developed through consultation with parents and educators. An advisory committee with members consisting of the Manitoba Association of Parent Councils (MAPC), the Manitoba Association of School Business Officials (MASBO), the Manitoba Association of School Superintendents (MASS), the Manitoba Teachers' Society (MTS), and the Manitoba School Boards Association (MSBA) was established to provide ongoing consultation and feedback.

New Report Card: Field Testing and Consultation

The new report card will be field tested in the 2011-2012 school year. Feedback from parents, teachers and the public at large will be used to make necessary adjustments to the following draft report card templates.

A final version of the new report card will be implemented province-wide in all public schools in the 2012-2013 school year. Other related draft documents will be placed on this page as they become available.

Draft Report Card Templates

The following draft templates will be used in the 2011-2012 school year by the schools selected for the field test. They can also be used on a voluntary basis by other schools. It should be noted that the draft templates include certain elements that require local modification before being used in a school.

The following templates are available for download as PDF Adobe PDF Icon files.

Reporting on the Arts

For the Grades 1-6 and Grades 7-8 report cards, there is a local option for reporting on the Arts disciplines, depending on the focus of Arts Education in the school. When a particular Arts discipline is a focus of instruction over the course of the year, it may be reported as a separate subject using the subject categories.
