The Kindergarten to Senior 4 Education Agenda for Student Success (the K-S4 Agenda) is an evolving, shared plan of action involving Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth working collaboratively with educational communities across the province. It is intended to improve public education in Manitoba, particularly student learning and performance. The K-S4 Agenda was developed through public consultation during 2001 and 2002. Although it does not encompass all of the work within the education system, the Agenda expresses a set of six priorities for public education in the province that complements the work already taking place in many schools. These six priorities are:
- Improving outcomes especially for less successful learners;
- Strengthening links among schools, families and communities;
- Strengthening school planning and reporting;
- Improving professional learning opportunities for educators;
- Strengthening pathways among secondary schools, post-secondary education and work;
- Linking policy and practice to research evidence.
The K-S4 Agenda identifies specific actions that are intended to advance each of the priorities. Since the inception of the Agenda, a number of actions have been undertaken and completed. Work continues on others while new actions have been added and are scheduled to begin over the next two years.
What follows are the actions for each priority that were originally identified in Manitoba K-S4, Education Agenda for Student Success 2002-2006, released by the department in August 2002, as well as information on completed, continuing and new actions.
