Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools, April 2012 New!

Music Month: Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools

Music surrounds our daily activities from infancy to adulthood, and contributes to our lives on personal, social, and creative levels. While music is an important part of the Manitoba school curriculum throughout the year, its role in education will be highlighted in April 2012 through school and community events that celebrate the skills and accomplishments of young musicians throughout the province.

Music Month Grants 2012 New!

For the 2012 Manitoba Music Month Grant program, schools are invited to apply for grants in support of Music Month school projects with a focus on composing, song-writing, and/or arranging. The intent of the program is to help schools engage professional musicians to work with teachers and students in projects that encourage students to express themselves through the creation and sharing of their own music. Successful schools will receive grants of up to $500 to help cover costs of the musicians, contingent upon the availability of funding.

Selection Criteria:

  • plan a music learning experience for their students, involving composing, arranging, and/or song-writing, to occur between January and April 2012;
  • use the services of a professional musician during that time for special workshops;
  • perform their composition(s) during Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools Month/April 2012 in their school or community.
