Distance learning is a method of study that allows students to complete courses through correspondence or over the internet.

As an international student, once you have arrived in Manitoba, you may be able to take distance learning courses depending on your school’s policies.

Some post-secondary institutions may allow you to complete courses while you are outside of Manitoba.

Contact the post-secondary institutions you are interested in attending to find out more about their distance learning courses.

High School Distance Learning Courses

Manitoba recognizes that accessibility and flexibility are important when delivering quality education that meets the needs of students, teachers, and school divisions, regardless of geographic location.

A number of Manitoba's high-quality, grade 9 to 12 courses are available through distance learning within Manitoba.

You can choose from a range of print-based (Independent Study Option) or on-line courses (Web-based Courses).

I’m an international student studying high school in Manitoba. Can I take a distance learning course?

Distance learning courses are available to all students within the Manitoba education system. If you would like to take a grade 9 to 12 distance learning course, speak with your school’s guidance councillor to find out if this might be the right opportunity for you.

I’m an international student studying high school outside of Manitoba. Can I take a distance learning course?

Currently, distance learning courses are only available to international students studying in Manitoba. Some exceptions have been made for international students who have previously studied in Manitoba.

If you have studied in Manitoba before, contact the school you studied with to find out if you are eligible to take a distance learning course in your home country.

Post-Secondary Distance Learning Courses

I’m an international student studying in Manitoba. Can I take a post-secondary distance learning course?

Many post-secondary institutions offer distance learning courses that are available to all students. Make an appointment with your academic advisor to determine if distance learning courses can be taken through your study program.

I’m an international student studying outside of Manitoba. Can I take a post-secondary distance learning course?

Some post-secondary institutions in Manitoba allow students outside of Manitoba to take distance learning courses. Contact the Manitoba institution you would like to attend to find out if this might be an option for you.

You must request a Letter of Permission from your home institution and apply for admission as a Visiting Student to the Manitoba institution that is offering the course you are interested in taking. If you are accepted by the Manitoba institution, you will then be able to take the Manitoba course online while in your home country.

I’m an international student registered at a Manitoba Post-Secondary Institution. Can I take a post-secondary distance learning course through eCampus Manitoba?

As an international student studying at a designated Manitoba post-secondary institution, you may request permission to take distance learning courses offered by partner institutions through eCampus Manitoba.

eCampus Manitoba is an online portal where distance learning courses are offered by a consortium of Manitoba’s largest post-secondary institutions. To find out more, speak with your academic advisor and visit the eCampus Manitoba website external website.
