Advice
- Consultation with the ArtsSmarts coordinator prior to submitting an application is required and should assist in a more effective project proposal.
- The ArtsSmarts handbook may serve as a useful tool for the planning and implementation of an ArtsSmarts project; first-time applicants may obtain one from the Manitoba Arts Council ($25). This is also available online at www.artssmarts.ca.
- Projects should be managed by a designated coordinator from the school/organization requesting project assistance. The coordinator will manage project timelines, ensure that all paperwork be completed and submitted as requested and guarantee timely remuneration for the artist(s) involved. These responsibilities are not eligible for remuneration through the Manitoba Arts Council.
- All teachers and artists who are to be involved in a project assisted by the ArtsSmarts program must participate in professional development opportunities offered during the project year (i.e. initial orientation day, planning and evaluation sessions, etc.). All teachers and participants should be made aware of this upon applying for ArtsSmarts’ assistance. The applicant will ensure that time and funds are allocated to ensure teacher participation; ArtsSmarts funding remunerates the artist’s participation.
- All schools receiving artists will be required to have Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record checks done in compliance with legislation as directed by their respective divisional board.
- All ArtsSmarts program participants must agree to provide and permit photo/video-documentation of their project(s) and, from time to time, work with and allow researchers (professionals engaged by Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth or by universities) to be present. Signed permission from parents/guardians for the use of children’s images must be provided.
- Applicants to the ArtsSmarts program will use the application forms, contracts, final report and evaluation forms provided by the Manitoba Arts Council. The coordinators, educators and artists involved in projects will submit these documents duly completed in timely fashion. These are available from the website (www.artssmartsmanitoba.ca) or through the Manitoba Arts Council office. In the event that the schedule of reports is not fulfilled, the Manitoba Arts Council reserves the right to terminate payments and apply restrictions to the particular school or organization’s capacity to request further project assistance.
- The Manitoba Arts Council must be acknowledged by the use of its logo on all documentation referring to the project(s) that receive assistance; it is requested that the name of the participating artist(s) appear in any printed documentation relating to an ArtsSmarts project.
- Please note that recipients of ArtsSmarts program assistance may not be eligible to apply to the Manitoba Arts Council Artists in the Schools Residencies Program for Schools for assistance to the same project should it be awarded.
