February is I Love to Read Month

February is designated I Love to Read month all across North America.  This internationally-celebrated month is the perfect time to promote early childhood interest in reading and highlight the importance of literacy skills throughout life.  Download one of the following calendars for a list of activities that you can do to celebrate the joy of reading.

January 27, 2009 is Family Literacy Day

Every year on January 27, families and communities across Canada celebrate this special day at literacy-themed events co-ordinated by literacy organizations, schools, public libraries and families.  Here are some of the many free events happening in Manitoba:

Literacy Partners of Manitoba
Kildonan Place Shopping Centre (Winnipeg, MB) – Friday, January 23, 2009 (2:00 p.m.)
Please join us in breaking the Guinness World Record for the most amount of children reading with an adult.  This event will is being organized at multiple locations throughout the province.

Come out and celebrate the joy of books with the Story Fairy.
