We have the right to have opportunities to learn and be as independent as possible.  We have the responsibility to tell people about our dreams and goals.
- Manitoba Developmental Centre Resident Bill of Rights and Responsibilities

Program Description:
The Specialty Care Literacy Program provides a positive atmosphere for adults with a developmental disability to develop and enhance their literacy skills.  We offer small group and individualized classes, which are tailored to the individuals needs.  The focus is on emergent literacy, functional literacy, and special requests for learning made by the learners.

Increased literacy has the potential to build self-esteem, confidence and competence when engaging in activities of daily living.  Literacy is a means through which learners can better understand and interact with the world around them.  Furthermore, literacy skills empower learners to be independent and motivate a desire to learn and achieve their goals.
